Calvary Baptist Church hosted the Wisconsin Talents for Christ competition on Saturday, April 16. Nine students representing five WARBC churches participated including: Calvary Baptist of Wisconsin Rapids, Grace Baptist Church of Plover, Faith Baptist Church of Adams, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Appleton and Rice Lake Baptist Church, Rice Lake. Talents for Christ exists to challenge students who are actively involved in GARBC churches to develop their God given talents for ministry within their local churches and to honor those who demonstrate exceptional preparation and skill.
This competition is held on a nation wide basis. Students who place First or Second in their state are then eligible to compete in the National Competition that will be held during the National GARBC Conference on June 30 in Lakeland Florida. A variety of categories exist for students to compete for college scholarships including: Bible Knowledge, Brass, Piano, Female Public Speaking, Strings, Preaching, Visualized Bible Teaching, Voice, Woodwinds and Writing. The First place state winners are awarded an $800 scholarship and Second place state winners a $400 scholarship. National winners are awarded $5,000.00 for First place and $2,500.00 for Second place winners.
